There are many causes of mental illnesses, traumatic brain injury, biological factors or even exposure to toxic chemicals or diseases ("Mental Disorders." MedlinePlus). People who are affected by mental disorders may react differently and have different experiences whether or not it’s the same diagnosis. One of the most known mental illnesses is depression, it is a common but serious illness that affects an estimate of 350 million people worldwide, based on traditional treatments it is said that up to 60 percent of people with depression can recover (World Health Organization 2015). Other examples of mental illnesses are schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, addictive behaviors and eating disorders which are quite common as well. One question that most of us have is what causes mental illnesses, there isn’t one accurate answer to this question but a few factors that contribute to it are psychologic trauma, environmental stressors, genetics/heredity and biology e.g. abnormal balance of chemicals in the brain, we also think about treatments and if mental illness can be prevented, which I don’t think is possible (MedicineNet 2015). Mental illness is the actual disease or condition that uncontrollably interferes with life’s daily routines and is diagnosed medically. Mental disorders affect one in four people in the world and not every country pays attention to mental health, it’s surprising to see that some countries totally disregard mental illnesses. More than 40 percent of countries have no mental health policy and that’s a problem because that’s basically watching people who are affected by it suffer, everyone deserves to get help in some type of way, mental disorders are just as important as any other
