The population of Springfield community consist of approximately 100,000 hardworking factory laborers who are mostly elderly which contributed to both the city and county growth from the late 1950s through early 2005. Since the plant closed, many of the former worker have difficult finding jobs due to the availability of work as well as their ages, as many are 60 years of age or older. Memorial hospital has been around since mid 1950s not only provide medical care to the community of Springfield but is also a teaching hospital for nurse. Memorial hospital consists of several primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, a couple of general surgeons, and one cardiologist, but no cardiac surgeon.

Once the nurse are done with their education, Memorial Hospital will be able to recruit the nurses as they wait through the communication training and have build the necessary skills that is require to communicate with patients, as well as build a relationship. This will make community members come to Memorial to receive their medical care, as they will be able to feel comfortable knowing that the nurses will “always” communicated well with them by answering any question they may have and explain their medical care. Additional, by having the nurse see the patient before patients see their primary care physician, the nurse will be able to take patient history and physical, such as labs, weight, height, EKG.
