Furthermore, children diagnosed with autism typically have reduced rates of melatonin synthesis and production. One of the primary reasons that that melatonin is used to treat autism is because it is an endogenous hormone secreted by the pituitary gland that regulates sleep patterns, cardiac rhythms, and immune responses. In a current study, twenty-four children diagnosed with autistic sleep disorders showed improvements in sleep quality by taking a daily dosage of one to three milligrams of melatonin each night before going to sleep. (Malow, pp. 1729-1730). Furthermore, this study revealed that sleep latency gradually begins to decrease after consumption between the first dosage and the final dosage. Throughout the clinical trial, researchers noticed that children with autism tolerated dietary supplements of melatonin with minimal adverse effects (Malow, p. 1735). A current hypothesis on why melatonin is effective is because it is effective in treating deficiency levels of melatonin produced by the pituitary gland. To show the reversing effects of melatonin, another study conducted by the, analyzed the overnight endogenous and PK melatonin profiles in autistic children (Goldman, et al., p. 2526). Before taking dietary supplements of melatonin, the children in this trial had sleep delays of thirty minutes or …show more content…
Even though the ordinary human body possesses forty-six chromosomes, cancer can arise from genetic mutations or DNA chromosome damage. Furthermore, cancer is one of the deadliest and lethal diseases since cancer cells create malignant tumors within the body leading up to organ failure if cancer cells avoid detection. In females, the leading cause of breast cancer is the level of estrogen in the female body as well as estrogen exposure with the environment. Breast cancer occurs in women since the breasts of a woman are mammary glands surrounded by fatty and fibrous connective tissue. Similar to other body parts, the female breasts contain a vast network of vessels known as the lymphatics which drain any remaining extracellular fluid found in body tissue. Since there is vein like vesicles present in the female breast, the lymphatic system serves as the primary mechanism of defenses in the immune system. Unlike genetic disorders, cancer cells are pleomorphic because they possess many different types of cancers ranging from breast cancer to colorectal cancer. A standard feature that every kind of cancer consists of is the abnormal multiplication and spread of cells in the body (Hirshaut & Pressman, pp. 30-38). As a result of abnormal multiplication of cancer cells, body cells migrate from their point of origin to different body part locations resulting in the formation of
