Grim describes Saint Maurice as a knight who was, “effective against the barbarous heathens of Europe and became patron saint of medieval Germany’s eastern empire and consecrated the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg for St. Maurice.” (Grimm, 127). This passage is important because it showed the prestige an individual of African Descent could have gained during Medieval Germany. Not only could an individual of African descent hold a position, they could also be given a huge amount of power and decision making in the German Empire. Saint Maurice helped support the idea of universalism by helping spread and conquer foreign kingdoms on non-believers in order to spread the Christian word of God.
