Many years ago, Europeans experienced a period called the “Medieval Times” or also known as the “Middle Ages”. The time period lasted from the 5th to the 15th century. These times were often thought of as the most turbulent, or most exciting in the English and European history! The Medieval people were war like, they always wanted to conquer new land. Even though the Medieval times has numerous things to be remembered by, the most remembered from the Medieval Times were the castles.
Medieval Castles were build for over 500 years, around 100 AD to 1500. Castles were a display of the owners rank, and wealth. The first castles were made of wood, but the Medieval people soon discovered the wood was easy to burn, therefore in 1100 CE they decided to use stone. The floor was stone, but was covered in animal fur, but among the many things the castles are remembered for, there are a few rooms that really stood out. “The Great Hall” which is one large room with a loft ceiling, where they ate and had formal occasions. “The Great Hall” was sometimes on the ground floor, but often raised to the second story. “The Chapel” where they would hold religious services. “The Gatehouses” which was a secure place that guarded the gates. “The Keep” a hideaway for food, and was also known as the last resort in defense. “The Barracks” which were home of the knight and soldiers. These are only a few of the many impactful rooms in the Medieval Castles.
Even though Medieval Castles are very dark and gloomy they are also very delicate and appealing. The castles consist of many elaborate spaces. The Medieval people used many war tactics in building the castles, making sure that almost every detail would benefit their war tactics in some way shape or form.
