MEDICARE’S DRIVERS OF INNOVATION AND CHANGE There are various drivers of change and innovation for any organization and they may differ based on the type of industry, its location, type of company, etc. However, for Medicare, the main fundamental drivers are as follows.

Purpose
The purpose of Medicare is to provide medical coverage for civil servants throughout the country. Its tagline “Mentakafulkan setiap warga penjawat awam”, is an attestment to this. On this note, Medicare needs to be innovative in introducing new competitive insurance products and at the same time find creative ways to reach its market.

Goal
It is very important to set a Company goal that is realistic for which business strategies are aligned towards the goal. A goal

Systems refers to the way that ideas are captured and evaluated. A well-defined process ensures that all ideas and feedback are captured, and reviewed and addressed. Medicare’s structure promotes innovation by gathering ideas and feedback from all its employees. These feedback and ideas are then channeled to the Product Development Unit, which is directly under the purview of the Managing Director.

Culture or People
Many scholars opine that the people in an organization is a major driver for change and innovation. Contrary to the belief that creativity and innovative are innate qualities of people, employees can actually be trained in their skills and behavior to support innovation. Encouraging innovation in an organization can then become part of a Company’s culture. Creativity is a much sought after characteristic in Medicare when recruiting staff.

Leadership
Last but not least is Leadership as a driver for change and innovation. The management of the most innovative companies are innovators themselves. These leaders reveal more “discover skills” with the ability to challenge the status quo and bring about changes. When leaders possess these traits, employees are bound to follow suit and themselves become creative, innovative and adaptive to change.
