Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a vital component of any medical profession, including nursing. Nursing care has changed throughout the history and in large part due to research. According to Schmidt & Brown, EBP has several different definitions, but they all encompass three main components, research based information, clinical expertise, and patient preferences (2015). Simply put, EBP is utilizing nursing critical thinking skills to implement care to patients using research that has shown to have positive outcomes while keeping patient preferences in mind. In order to provide this type of exemplary care, nurses use EBP to enhance patient outcomes by using a systemic process (Friesen-Storms, et al., 2015). In order for research to be conducted
