I was choosing between ultrasound, radiology, nuclear med, and nursing. I tried thinking what are my possible chances of getting a job and chances of success in each place. I chose nursing which is a degree with a growing demand and greater opportunities. I selected a career with the highest possible return. I am happy, because I can go back to school for continuing education and advance my career.

I asked 15 of my coworkers who work the same shift as me, to pick their favorite day to work on a weekday (Monday-Friday) to see my chances of getting Monday and Friday off and have a long weekend. Throughout the entire semester, I incorporated evidence based practice into my clinical days. Whether if I was performing a skill or if I was observing my nurse do a skill, I was thinking is this evidence based. I observed nurses use water instead of alcohol to clean an area on the skin before pricking a patient’s finger for a blood glucose check; this I knew was evidenced based. Some none evidence based thing that I observed were using 5/8inch needles when the nurse should have been using a 1inch length or not using two hands when assessing a patient’s fundus. I met my midterm goal of telling the nurse nicely that this is not what we learned in school.…

Being at the Phoenix Center today made me see how people’s attitude can affect a person. Patient’s in detox centers such as Phoenix have set schedules to abide by as part of their treatment plan. It is nesseccary for them to attend to these private and group meeting to help them stay on track. Many of them see these meeting as pointless and stupid but they are very beneficial to their progress. These patients are also grogy and tired as they are coming off of drugs and alcohol, and the medications they take also make them tired as well.…

I agree with you, Aaron and I discussed this over the phone. He was upset that he wasn’t able to shadow with the director and thought asking him to complete a speaking engagement within the same day was poor timing. I do believe that my city investigators spend more time explaining and educating individuals about what we do than any other investigators, especially with the SLU Medical Students Aaron did agree to accept a speaking engagement; he just wanted to be skipped this one time.…

Growing up I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do as a profession. No inclination of something that amazed me or pushed me toward it. I eventually chose what I thought would be a good stable career simply because it would be a financially good choice but it never seemed like something I could stick with or love. I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…

During my attendance to the Seattle Children’s Hospital Nursing Camp, I job shadowed multiple Registered Nurses in the Cancer Care Unit, Medical Floor, Operating Room, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
