1. Does the media distort images of real people? In the television shows I decided to take notes on, they do not distort the characters as much as other television shows. For example, in the Big Bang Theory they have characters that are mediocre looking, they also have a variation of races included. One person that is distorted is Penny, she is known as the preppy, stereotypical dumb blonde. In reality, she is actually very intelligent. The commercials were a excellent example of distorted images. Commercials only showcase attractive looking people, that appeal to the audience. A lot of times they have a lot of makeup on or are photoshopped. Rarely do you see a person appear on a commercial that is not a 10/10. In real life you do not see

2. Does the media influence our sense of reality? The media influences our sense or reality completely. As a society, we are always comparing ourselves to other people. Most of the time the people that we use to compare ourselves to are photoshopped or have had plastic surgery done. The media also makes us believe certain stereotypes such as the dumb blonde or how nerds act. For example in the Big Bang Theory they set the stereotype that all nerds are online gamers and do not have a social life outside of their “nerd herd.” They also contribute to the dumb blonde stereotype. In real life when a person sees a blonde, a lot of times they automatically assume that they are not very intelligent.
In the Middle, the stereotypical jock character seen. Axl is the stereotypical jock, he is dumb, only cares about himself, and is attractive and successful in sports. In real life when we see a group of boys in football uniforms we automatically assume that they are good at sports and stupid. In reality a decent amount of “jocks” attain good grades and are
