Meaning Of Urshan Community

Decent Essays
The school year has officially come to a close! It is summer time and we are all thankful for another year completed. This past year has been one filled with laughter, tears, stress, triumph, and most importantly life changing moves of God. Through it all, we have drawn together as a family and a community. It has been through the good times and the struggling times that we have lifted each other up and continued the journey placed before us. Above every accomplishment, I would like to express a thank you to our student body, staff, and faculty for investing in and deepening the meaning of our Urshan Community. It is more than a phrase or Bro. Reid asking us to “Hug your neighbor!” after every chapel. It is an atmosphere of love and support

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…

As the semester comes to a conclusion, so far I have been very satisfied with my performance thus far here at Slippery Rock University. Being in college has really given me the opportunity to meet so many new people that have been able to positively impact in such a big way. May it be through helping me study for exams or just a great group of friends that I can go hang out with. Don’t get me wrong there most definitely has been some rocky moments here and there but I feel that I really pushed through those moments and have made the best out of them.…

For quite some time now I have felt a strong desire to leave my surrounding community, and leave to serve other parts of the world. By serving in local parts of my community I notice how that makes an impact on others live, and I am filled with alacrity knowing that I have the opportunity to make more profound impact in others lives. With many hardships that people are experiencing throughout the world today, I have realized how much greater the calling is that I leave my community and help heal a new one. From March 24st to March 31st I will be going with my school to Kansas City, United States. We will be serving at an Open Door Refuges Ministry, which is a ministry that cares and shows love to the Burmese refugee community, in the Kansas…

This year has been a crazy one. I came from a public school, not knowing anyone, so I terrified and didn't know what to expect. I struggled with trusting others, time management and battling multiple tasks at once. Luckily, I had a lot of practice throughout the year. In September of 2015, I took a class that I never imagined myself taking; teen leadership. A speech class, taught by my band director and involved a lot of socializing with others, creativity, and on the spot thinking. These things- I was not the greatest at. Unfortunately, reality later dawned on me, and I realized that to become- and be great at being- a physical therapist, I would have to be more social, more approachable by others.…

Every year on Valentine’s Day, my school hosts something we call the “Civility Assembly”. In the afternoon, the entire school is called to the auditorium, and are presented with an unscripted, straight-from-the-heart presentation from the staff. This year, the theme was “Home”. A former Wahconah graduate who entered the marines gave a speech about the value of home to him and the results of a staff interview as to “Why Wahconah is Home to Me” was presented, among other things. While there were definitely some generic answers, many of the answers really hit home with me, like “I get to see my best self reflected in each of your eyes everyday.…

Good evening fellow grads, teachers, families and friends, I would like to thank you all for giving me the honour of speaking at our commencement ceremony. As I stand before you today and look upon the 400+ students of my own graduating class I must confess something. While I would love to stand here and reminisce over all the pleasant experiences we shared together, from sports games, to spirit assemblies, to academic activities, cracking some jokes along the way, the truth is that any such action would feel disingenuous and superficial. Despite being in the same building for the past 4 years, perhaps even participating in similar events, every graduating student in this room has had a vastly different high school experience, and vastly…
