They also have similar connotations. If they were to be switched in a sentence, the meaning or message of the sentence would not be changed whatsoever. Another word that can be compared to ambition is perseverance. Ambition requires a vision and a mental persistence to make that vision transform into reality. Without perseverance there is no possibility of ambition. One must be able to still have the will to seek and achieve their objective despite the bumps they encounter on the way. This is why ambition is such a valued, yet rare trait among people.
Anyone can have a goal. Being able to maintain a long-lasting drive to achieve this goal, however, is the quality of ambition. There are many people with many differing degrees of it. Some people have difficulty with the idea of setting a goal and basing things in their life around reaching it. Setting a goal of getting to work on time everyday is not ambition. Neither is hoping to go to Yale and then dropping out of high school. True ambition should include setting a major goal for you or your life and then putting in the appropriate effort for it to be
