“Meals on Wheels”
“Meals on Wheels” is run and operated in almost every community in the USA through a network of more than 5,000 independently-run local programs. The goal of this program is to deliver meals to the individual at home that is not able to buy or prepare their own meals, have difficulty going shopping, and carrying groceries home. This program is funded by community organized programs to help, like local community organizations, business, donors, sponsors and more than two million volunteers and supplemental funding from the Older Americans Act is incorporating savings into a safety net for the elder. “Meals on Wheels” is not a government service, but Government grants and public donations are used and welcome. Transportation option for older adults is run and operated by the Florida’s Aging and Disability Resources. This program is committed to helping people that are at least 60 years and older. This program is an independent commission within the Florida Department of Transportation and this makes this service to be available, efficient, cost-effective and the quality of service to be good.
The program uses lots volunteer drivers, and nonprofit organization’s area willing to help by taking older people to doctors’ appointments, shopping, recreation, and other activities. In Florida, there are over 800 transportation resources in the database and if looking for available transportation for a particular city, there is a site “Florida League of Cities Directory that would help find county and city the person needs the service.
It is easy to find a transit ride, just need to contact the FDOT’s and get the American Public Transportation Association and they will provide a list of transit lines available in Florida.
