Mazie Hirono, born on November 3rd 1947, an immigrant from Fukushima Japan who migrated to America with her mother and attended public school and graduated from the University Of Hawaii Manoa, and later on Law School at “George Town University Law Center.” In 1980 Mazie Hirono ran for a seat in the Hawaii House of Representative and went on to be elected as Lieutenant governor in 1994. Mazie Sworn in to Office in the position of U.S Senator of Hawaii in January 3, 2013. Mazie Hirono “serves as the first and only Asian American woman and first woman senator from Hawaii.” She is married to Leighton Kim Oshima and has been involved in government work all her life. Helping others run for office prior to running for her self.
