Mayoral Candidates Reflection

As a listener during the forum, I heard numerous candidates. Some of them were not unique, and had similar ideas from most of the candidates. However, there were great candidates, which I considered, persuasive, smart, and great leaders. Especially, with the mayoral candidates: Michael Bagnens, Troy Henry, LaToya Cantrell, and Desiree Charbonnet. Compare to the city councils, I believe the mayoral candidates presented were more respected, and have more experience when it comes to leadership. Highlighting leadership, the mayoral candidates had different aspects of leadership. None of them seem to be arrogant leaders, as the video shown in class, where the boss was taking advantage of his position. Fortunately, no candidate seemed to be as that …show more content…
For example, Candidate Michael Bagnens reminded me of a Situational Leader. He gave me that impression, since, discussing about Housing in New Orleans can lead to tension, and as a candidate he was the calm one. Michael Bagnens was direct, and did not lead to any emotions at all. For that reason, I believe he would probably the leader when there is a chaotic situation. Another type of leadership I noticed was Influential leadership. Candidates, Troy Henry and Desiree Charbonnet took the prize for this category. Both candidates, had the type of charisma and personality, where you listened to them, and believe them 100%. As Robin Williams, in Dead Poet Society, Troy Henry had a voice. His voice gave him emotions and passion for what he does. Similarly, to Hilary Clinton, Mayoral Candidate, Desiree Charbonnet, is a hardworking woman. Her personality and voice gave me the impression, that with her preparation she will influence people. The four mayoral candidates had one thing in common, besides wanting to win the elections. All of them are transactional leaders, where they offered good solutions and promises, in exchange of

The best type of leader is a person that encourages its employees to not only benefit themselves, but to strive to be the best type of leader for their community. Most people see being a leader as a person that has a strong sense of basic organization skills and can manage multiple people, but in my opinion that is a selfish act that only helps a small portion of people. To be a successful leader is simply defined as a person the run an organization or an office, but how is that a leader? A leader should be motivating and not solely where it is convenient for making money, hence I think that being a leader should be more influential to aspects of life that are bigger than ourselves.…

A leader, the person who leads or commands a group. That's the Merriam-Webster definition, but that seems far too simple a definition for a character who's actions and influences can reverberate for days, weeks or even generations to come. Often the word leader calls to mind a vision of Martin Luther King Jr., a military officer, or the President of the United States? A leader, in my opinion, is someone who leads a group with integrity, and with a passion to serve others. Leaders need to have values and character straits admirable to others.…
