Maxwell (1997) describes this stage as “pouring your life into other people and helping them reach their potential” (p. 8). And so, the mentoring stage involves four important principles, enlarging people, navigate for others, connect with people, and empowers others. The first principle is the ability to enlarge people. Maxwell contends that mentoring is the best way to enlarge a person’s personal and professional life. Maxwell (1997) argues, “The mentoring process offers people the opportunity to turn their potential into reality, their dreams into destiny” (p. 123). In other words, mentoring brings out the best in other people. Further, it gives the mentee the means to see their dreams fulfilled. The second principle is the being able to navigate for others. Maxwell (1997), contends, “Empowering is giving your influence to others for the purpose of personal and organizational growth” (p. 184). Maxwell insists that an influential leader will share his or her resources in an effort to see potential realized in others. In order to empower others, a leader must have a position that enables them to give authority, a relationship with the person, the respect of the person being empowered, and the commitment to follow through with the person.

Maxwell (1997) argues, “As a multiplying influencer, you help people you’re influencing become positive influencers in the lives of others and pass on not only what they have received from you, but also what hey have learned and gleaned on their own” (p. 8). The basis for Maxwell’s argument is that an influential leader will raise up leaders of influence. The core of an influential leader is to multiply their influence through other leaders.
Conclusion
Maxwell outlines the steps necessary to amplify a leader’s influence among people. There is no excuse for a leader to remain at their current influential level. Consequently, as leaders, it is imperative to move from one stage to the next. Churches, business, and people all benefit when influential leaders develop and expand their
