Tom Robinson's trial was the main factor of Jem and Scout beginning to develop their view of the world. Jem and Scout both start viewing stuff and approaching them differently they began to apprehend how the world isn't fair like both of them always thought it was. Jem and Scout started to understand that it isn't all about having fun and playing games, they began to see the real side of the world, they opened up further to the topic ''fairness''. Jem was very affected by this trial and evidence to prove that is by how he spoke and expressed his feelings towards it to Atticus regarding the Tom Robinson trial. An example of this is shown by a quote in this novel, ''Jem stayed moody and silent for a week. As Atticus had once advised me to do, I tried to climb into Jem's skin and walk around in it: if I had gone alone to the Radley Place at two in the morning, my funeral would have been held the next afternoon. So I left Jem alone and tried not to bother him.''.
