Identity is like a teenager trying to find who they truly are. In finding one's identity almost always is hard to find, because their emotions are always changing. Sometimes after finding one's identity, can give good and bad outlooks on the person's identity. The character Matilda was very prideful in her looks at the ball, but later realized consequences followed after that. In “The Necklace” Madilta didn’t want to go to a party unless she had the perfect thing to wear. Madilta tried on many dresses and none of them worked. Matilda told her husband “I need 500 francs for the perfect dress or I won't go”. (Matilda 1).When Matilda finally found something to wear, she felt like the most beautiful girl at the party. Matilda got many of compliments like “ wow you're so pretty” or “you're so beautiful”. Matilda got very prideful with all of the compliments that she got that the next day she had lost the necklace that she borrowed. Matilda was too embarrassed to go to the person that she borrowed the very expensive necklace for the party from, so she got another job to pay for it. But later on Matilda learned that the necklace wasn't worth anything, and that if she was just honest then it would have been so much easier for her and she wouldn't had to raise money to replace it. This is important because Matilda learned that having pride doesn't have to be a bad thing.
