Math Placement Test Paper

Researching two math placement tests for this project was the easiest part. A math placement test is a test that students take before entering a math course in college. The placement test that I took was for Monmouth University in Monmouth, New Jersey. Monmouth is on my list of schools that I am applying to for the fall of 2018 along with James Madison, which is the other test I chose to research for this project. I took the Monmouth test not thinking I would be able to complete the assigned twenty five problems but I successfully did it.

Once again, this test must be taken by all incoming students because it helps your counselor decide on which math you should be placed in so that any class is not too challenging. After comparing both of these tests, I found that the math levels on them are fairly the same regarding the type of skill you need to complete them. The similarities these tests share are; no calculator is permitted, the timing is roughly the same except you get thirty minutes more on the James Madison test and on both tests, are taken electronically on the computer. For both of these tests, I need to refresh on showing work and writing problems out instead of relying on the calculator to solve for me. After doing this project, I have learned what a placement test is and how to prepare for them. I am very excited to be able to have the knowledge of what lies ahead of me for my future and where I will end up going for my further education.
To conclude, researching these two schools math placement tests has helped me figure out where I stand in the perspective of completing my future math courses. I enjoyed being able to find out more about what I can do to help me along with the process of applying to

Appropriately specific brief summary of MCK Test results. It was during week three that I completed the Mathematical Content Knowledge (MCK) test for the purposes of determining my level of understanding relating to certain mathematical concepts, such as multiplication, division, addition, and place value (Curtin, 2014). Before starting, I felt overly confident in my ability to successfully answer all the questions within the quiz, however, it was not until I skimmed through the questions that I began to think otherwise. The beliefs in myself concerning mathematics is one of duality: I know that I am more than capable of solving complex questions, yet I am also conscious of my lacking motivation behind the subject itself which stems from…

There must have been about thirty questions, but that seems long when you haven’t been at school to learn the lessons that well. The first five questions were multiplying humongous numbers and long division like twelve divided by one hundred and forty four. At the time, that was really hard for me. I went pretty slowly, and I checked my work. The next ten questions were on mean, median, and mode, which I was OK at.…

The fact that students’ achievement on tests such as SAT has stagnated is of no amazement to those most familiar with the testing environment. Students, often able to answer short multiple choice answers or write limited passages, therefor leading to success on state mandated exams are unable to answer complicated math problems, compose lengthier research driven papers necessary for college entrance and college preparedness. (Amrein & Berliner, 2002). Another issue arising for students developing educationally in a high-stakes testing environment is the overwhelming consensus of the failures associated with the testing in meeting the needs of the economically disadvantaged and the students with special needs. As high-stakes testing moved into the norm for Texas and the U.S, supporters were adamant that this testing would provide new opportunities for those students in the highest risk of failure.…
