Master of Nursing (MSN) Education is designed to prepare nursing students and professionals to advance their knowledge and skills. The program is designed and organized by curriculum stakeholders including the national organizations, community, and learning institutions to meet standards of higher learning in nursing. It incorporates fundamental master’s level principles, high-level clinical principles, and education-oriented courses. The educational-based course under this program that is explored in this course development project is “Research in Nursing.”
The educational component of the program provides nursing learners with a firm foundation on educational and teaching principles. The course enables the student to master the concepts or principles, methods or procedures, and techniques of the research practice from predicament assessment aspect to interpretation and analysis procedures. The course expounds more on qualitative and quantitative methodologies that had been taught in the earlier levels. The master nursing student has an opportunity to identify a researchable gap in nursing, design and create a strategy for its study and solutions.
The course expands students’ understanding of the research methods through assessing, reviewing, critiquing, and interpreting current research approaches that employ many designs. During the course, the focus will be on the idealistic concepts of the two research paradigms and their uses in nursing practice.
