Aesthetic I think realizing the importance of the characteristics of a nurse allows one to develop a vision of the type of nurse that they want to be or become. Realization also contributes to what you want the public, specifically your clients, to view the nursing profession as. I feel that there are more than three characteristics that I value as a nurse. When I think about what is important, I tend to think back to Maslow 's Hiearchy of Needs. In this model, needs can be viewed from a personal perspective and one that we strive to acquire for our clients. The levels that I want to focus on is that of “Safety, Social, and Esteem” needs (McLeod, 2014).

In one study two registered nurses analyzed 48 intensive care units from 29 different hospitals to explore relationship with competent nurses working in the unit and patient safety. Kendall-Gallagher & Blegan (2009) study found the following: The overall focus of this study was to increase understanding of the relationships between competence and certification of registered nurses and safety of patients. Evidence is accumulating that competency of ICU nurses is an important factor in both the prevention and creation of adverse events (p. 110).
Proving the profession of nursing 's worth will lead to the acknowledgement of the need to realize the need to view nursing as a profession. As a charge nurse, one thing that I want to develop further as I journey towards my bachelor 's degree is that of maintaining accountability and delegating to staff based on their levels of education, licensure, skills set, and expertise. The reason I want to develop this further is to ensure that safe client care will be delivered, nursing staff, as well as myself, will meet the social and emotional needs of feeling good about being a nurse and providing a service to
