(Marx Vs. Reich) The way businesses and factories should be ran has been a debate since they started. Obviously, there are general ways work places should be ran or else business owners wouldn’t have workers. A main reason different countries run their businesses differently is how they run their country as a whole. A communist country is going to have different rules and procedures in a work place than a capitalist country. “One should add that labour is not the only source of material wealth. We also receive the proceeds of nature as a free gift, which also contributes to the wealth of society.” (Postone) Karl Marx lived in communist Germany and had many views concerning labor in his book The Communist Manifesto. Robert Reich, American born, also had strong economic views in his book, Why the Rich are Getting Richer and the Poor, Poorer. The two authors have both a similar and very different view of labor and economics. Considering Marx is from Germany, he has strong views. He is obviously, the communist/socialist. His basic belief is that wealth is the direct result of labor. He believes that what you put in is what you get out. Marx also believed that the amount of labor put in determined the value. “Initially, the labour theory of value was a very useful weapon to the rising bourgeoisie, when, as a progressive class, they used it to strike blows against the politically powerful landowning class.” (Friedrich) Reich’s more capitalist American view was focused on everyone being equal. He takes the capitalist route by believing in paying the workers all equally no matter how much is produced from each person.
