Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming today. It is truly an honor to be in consideration for a part of this international park. This park will pay tribute to the best of the best, the greatest of the great. There are millions of people who inspire others, but only the best truly inspire others through their actions and their examples. Through his speeches, marches, and protests, Martin Luther King Jr. impacted and inspired millions. He led with his speeches and boycotts, fought for civil rights, and left a legacy behind him that eventually created equal rights for all African Americans. He spoke out about what he thought was wrong, and he made the world see the horrors of what black people had to suffer through. The night Rosa Parks was arrested, King gave his first speech as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People president. He said “ We have no alternative but to protest. For many years we have shown an amazing patience. But we come here tonight to be saved from that patience that makes us patient with anything less than freedom and justice.” He called for people to boycott and protest against the Montgomery public transportation, and a year later, the Supreme Court lifted the law mandating segregated transportation.
