The author of the novel identifies the tone by the word choice he/she uses. “By the power of the superglue beer sword, I designate you my driver!” (Green, pg numb). This represents the comical tone that Green uses when drunk Ben speaks to Q. Identifying metaphors occurs when two objects or ideas are being compared to one another. “Maybe all his strings broke” (pg). This quote represents the similarities between people and puppets. The more people’s strings get broken, the more they want to die. The theme in the novel, that a person should chase after what they want, is established throughout the novel. The author establishes this because when Margo leaves, she does not care what she leaves behind. As well as Q who missed his own graduation to go and find Margo. and he did not care that he missed it.
