Moving from California to Idaho was a big change as I grew up, but becoming apart of the Coeur d'Alene community was the best thing my parents could've ever given me. It allowed for me to grow up in a community I will forever call my home. Like any type of social system, communities are independent networks all unique from one another containing many different components. Cohen states “people construct community symbolically, making it a resource and repository of meaning and a referent of their identity (Cohen 1985: 118).” As we grow we are constantly changing into the person we are meant to be. The environment and community a child grows up in truly makes an impact on their lives. Sense of belonging is something all people strive to have, and a community it something that brings to them. Growing up in Coeur d'Alene the community it has brought upon me has made me the person I am today. Moving from the diverse state of California at age 8 to a small town like Coeur d'Alene Idaho, both possesing drastically different communities. I was able to find my sense of belonging in both, but in one more than the other. Belonging is something we all strive to have, being accepted from our peers, and thriving in a society. Being apart of the particular community of Coeur d Alene allowed for me to branch out into multiple communities. Allowing to find my sense of belonging with other members in activities and hobbies I enjoyed such as; being outdoors and playing sports. Each community has a meaning but that meaning isn't affected by the location in which you are in, communities can be found all around
