An example of a soft skill required would be adaptability, because of the ever-changing environment, and you having to adjust quickly to the new surroundings. (Careers) There are also incentive based pays, for example, if you are stationed in a dangerous area then you will get x amount of money, and same goes for if you are in a special forces group like MARSOC. When you are first starting out for example though as a private with less than 2 years in the service you will be making about $1,600 a month, On paper this doesn’t sound super great, but when you take into account that they pay for your housing, food, schooling, health insurance, etc. it is actually a really good deal.
