Hello I am Marcus Mims and I am from Glen Ellyn. Throughout my life their are many of things that have drew my interest towards medicine . One of the first things that made me interested in medicine is like my life story, because my life has has hugely been effect by medicine. To begin my life story, I am a twin which as effected my life a lot. I was born premature at 26 weeks, weighing only 1 pound 8 ounces spending 68 in the NICU. This time was difficult for my parents but they never gave up hope in my brother and I . Due to being born premature I started I was very delayed in a lot of skills such as my motor skills and speech skills .At 3 months old, I was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus which has also had a huge effect my life . I am also interested in medicine because I know it can have a huge effect on someone's life , like it has on my life . I want to heal people so they can accomplish whatever they want out of life. In my life medicine has given a kid born with a 50% chance of survival after birth, the ability to pursue his goals. Throughout my life, people have expected me to not accomplish a lot due to my medical problems but those have never stopped me from pursuing my goals . The two things that most people most thought would stop me from achieving my goals is actually, what gives me motivation to never give up . Being born premature has made me into a Fighter, which as allowed me to over all the difficult challenges in my life . My life because I was born premature, I was speech delayed so I attended speech therapy classes from the ages of three to fourteen. I started school in the early intervention program, because I was delayed in some skills but starting life a little behind has never stopped me from having academic success .Having Hydrocephalus is actually a blessing to me, it has allowed me to build up my level of mental toughness which is a huge reason I am accomplishing through all the pain i go through have
