I played the clarinet for seven years and began marching band in ninth grade solely because it was required. I didn’t care for it so much and therefore only pursued it for one year after that. Yet, I did enjoy symphonic band because I would prefer to sit on stage, in decent clothing, with air conditioning or heat, and have the opportunity to at least watch the football games on Friday night. In my opinion, it 's a lot more educating too because symphonic band allows students to become more musically inclined and demonstrate their talent individually. While marching band students learn memorization and coordination skills as a group.…

This year, our Marching Band got the chance to go to Nashville, Tennessee where we encountered the different musical culture they had. We attended The Grand Ole Opry, a concert where many talented country musicians performed live in a giant hall. It was a fascinating experience when we learned about the musician’s lives through their music and what they consider everyday aspect of their lives that we don’t have farther up north. One of the band members got the opportunity to participate in a dance off onstage during one of the breaks, something the whole band celebrated in camaraderie. A museum with all things country music, “Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum” held all kinds of pieces from various dresses and instruments of musicians from…

Successful organizations all require 2 things: a strong team and strong leaders to direct the team to victory, and the Marching Pioneers is no exception to this rule. With an ensemble as large as the Marching Pioneers, there is no physically possible way 4 top tier leaders can give everyone the attention they need. Section leaders are necessary for the success of our fine organization, and there’s nothing more satisfying than being part of a leadership team that can add to the already growing success of this talented group. Here are just a few reasons why I would like to be in the next generation of saxophone section leaders. To be a section leader is like being given a lump of clay and being told to mold into the Statue of David.…

The parade portion of the marching band competitions covers what is said in the definition of marching band which is that a marching band is a band that marches and plays music at the same time as in a parade. Another reason why marching band is a sport is because marching bands practice and put in the same amount of work that sports do. The usual practice schedule for sports teams is to hold practice every day. Marching band rehearsal schedules can vary more often. Each school might have a different set of practice hours and different practice days for their band to rehearse.…

Ever since I joined band in 4th grade, people have been talking about how excited they were to join marching band. At band day in 5th and 6th grade, everyone else shared how they couldn't wait until they were a 9th grader and could finally be able to perform and play in the stands like we saw the marching band do many times. In 7th and 8th grade, we had a watered down version of marching band that only played two parades. While I was glad to get snare drum both years, the exhilaration was never there, and I came very close to not joining marching band. But against my will, I ended up auditioning for drumline in April and I got the cymbals.…

In no other sport have they told you to 'take the field'. You should feel the excitement when you hear those words, because this is the only place where you can make the field your own - control it. The field is yours, and you have to use it to tell your story. A marching field to me feels like a safe haven, where I can forget and be pure about who I am. Your story is only as good as you make it.…

Few people outside the marching band world realize the amount of time and effort that goes into assembling the perfect halftime show; months of preparation take place, and, then, rehearsals begin up until competition. Everyone involved, including band directors and band members, must contribute to the overall success of the marching band. Months before marching season begins, all materials must be prepared. This includes drill, coordinate sheets, and music. Usually, a drill writer is hired to prepare drill charts for the entire band.…
