Many public schools across the nation have specific academic obligations that students must fulfil in order to participate in extracurricular activities. When being a member of a large organization, members must interact with many different groups of people. They will face people of different races, ethnicities, incomes, backgrounds, skill levels, body types, sexualities, religions, etc., and still come together to meet goals that everyone shares (despite their personal differences). It is an important life skill to learn that you can be different from someone and still be able to grow with them. By coming together from differences to produce “one band, one sound” is an experience that will change you forever. Marching bands have significantly changed music education and the educational experiences of students in public schools. It teaches quick and efficient musicianship, pride in one’s performance in class, and, most importantly, character.
