Sitting through school is not always an exciting thing to do for kids. Learning about history can be even more boring, but a 5th grade teacher found a way to put the spotlight on one of his lessons the kids took part in. Now, the substitute teacher at Jefferson Elementary School in Maplewood, New Jersey, has some people fuming over the class activity.
CBS New York reported the school in the South Orange Maplewood School District is under fire for having children take part in a lesson about slavery, which included a mock slave auction where a child was sold to the highest bidder.
Some parents were furious that the school would allow a sensitive subject like slavery to be taught to the young children in this manner. One parent said:
