When Mephisto woke, his eyes fluttering open tiredly, he found that it was no longer dark outside and that the storm had subsided. The world outside his window was full of mist from the rain and the golden glow of sunrise. The world outside his window was filled with the noises of early morning, of people coming and going, of the cities birds cooing and crowing, settling of rooftops to watch the sun climb high into the sky. The world outside knew nothing of the odd twist of emotions that wrenched him apart and the monster he could so easily become. Knew nothing of his cruel desires and aching sadness, of his violence and honeyed words. Knew nothing of the small demon curled in his arm, who slept so fitfully.
