Yitzhak Shalom,

How are you? How's Elaine?

I read your last letter, and I have to say that I enjoy reading your interesting and fun letters.

I'm glad you said you will visit Israel in the coming year, and I am eagerly looking forward to see you. It feels like I have a lot to learn from you, and that you are a very intriguing man. You wrote that you are following Mangisto's story, and it really moved me. When I correspond with you I feel like I bring you the "hot news" from Israel, and you also advise me about interesting books like Professor Tavor's one…This correspondence is good for the both of us .

You mentioned that I have one more year for the studies and you are right, in a few days I will begin the fourth year. As part of my four

I hope this letter finds you and the rest of the family in good health. My parents and I are doing well, but we continue to worry and pray for our friends and neighbors who are either serving in the Union or have loved ones who are serving. In the letter, George talks of the fatigue, and in his words, “your health would break down before you had been in service a month” (Lurie pg. 160).…

For some a book composed almost entirely of letters written home from Vietnam may not seem like a desirable read. However, Dear America entices one from the first letter and makes the reader not want to put it down- unless they are reaching for a tissue. The tear provoking collection of letters at first seems like a window into the feelings, thoughts, and beliefs of a soldier suffering the hardships of war, but as it progresses the letters bite at the reader’s soul and makes one feel as though he/she is right there with the soldier. The book becomes more and more heartbreaking and then sends one’s emotions for a whirlwind in the section of last letters. Finally, it concludes with the most emotional letter written which is one from a mother in a world of hurt writing to her fallen son; this last letter leaves one bursting with compassion and feeling as though he/she is the parent who has lost a child to the monster that is war.…

I would say I love your passion that you bring to each subject, each book, each writing, I feed off of that from time to time. I have zilch to say negative about you and how you present the material to our class. To be honest, if I had to say one item we could use less of is reading, however, I understand the nature of this class, and I am well aware that if something goes away a new item has to dwell in that space, so I’m not going to complain. Again I am pleased with the layout of our class, again sometimes it can be overwhelming, but as I was told by my grandmother “This too shall pass”.…

Electing to attend Multnomah University has been both a rewarding and challenging experience.
