Due to a rise in drug use among teenagers, schools have begun to perform regular locker checks to make sure students are not harboring drugs or other illegal materials in their backpacks. Some say that this is a violation of the student’s privacy. Others suggest that this is necessary for the safety of the students. Both are correct in thinking the way they do. And, because of this, I am completely for these locker checks. To start, at the beginning of every school year, our school gives out school handbooks. These handbooks contain all of the rules and procedures that the students, parents, teachers, and faculty are expected to abide by. Therefor, all who enter the building should be educated as to what is considered against the rules on

Regular locker checks are in deed a form of violating the privacy of the students. However, the schools have no way of knowing what is inside their student’s backpacks. There could be a bomb in someone’s backpack and no one ever know it until it’s too late. Therefor, the schools have every right to check their student’s backpacks. It has been mentioned before that every student is aware of the rules that the school has established. There should not be anything of concern inside their backpacks to begin with. If there is, than it is their own fault for getting into trouble. All that should be in a student’s backpacks are pencils, pens, notebooks, and other school related items. Not drugs, alcohol, and other prohibited items. This is why regular locker checks should be mandatory throughout all schools.
I believe that regular locker checks should be mandatory in all schools because it would keep all those who are in it safe. Although it may be seen as a violation of student’s privacy, the students should not have anything in their backpack that would inflict any harm upon a single person in the school, including themselves.
