The ones who support the use of mandatory electrocardiograms believe they are vital in saving the lives of highschool athletes by decreasing the risk of sudden cardiac death. Every student athlete must undergo an examination by their doctor in order to determine if they are physically cleared for a sport. Along with the physical examination, an athlete must include family medical history. Some young athletes will lie about health problems in their family due to the risk of not being able to participate.
