Mandatory Dress Codes

Dress codes are created for varieties of different reasons. Some places should have them such as more professional work environments; but places such as casual work environments and schools should not. There shouldn't always be a dress code in tact, but places should always have boundaries on what is acceptable for people to wear. In my opinion, more professional jobs should require dress codes. Depending on the type of job, people should only have to follow a dress code if it is completely necessary. Jobs such as the military need the soldiers to look uniform and clean. Everywhere in the world, there are thousands of young children and teens that are judged horrifically because of what society thinks is acceptable for them to wear. How you dress reflects your personality and who you are as a person. If you take that away, what do you have left? You can't let society rip away your identity based on what you choose to wear. High school is already a tough place to be yourself, but by being able to dress in a relaxing matter, it may help. Some will argue that how some dress may distract others from learning, but that isn't always true. There are many things that seem distracting to young adults, but clothing items should not be one. Around the world, many school communities have adopted school uniforms, so the way people dress is not an issue. However, is it an issue? There's more to the story that you may think. What you need to think about it is the price for all those uniforms. Some schools already have money problems and adding the price of uniforms will just add to that problem. It has its benefits, but also some drawbacks. A benefit of dress codes is it keeps a place looking professional and clean. Some drawbacks of dress codes is they can sometimes be expensive, it takes away individuality, and people usually vote against dress codes. Many may think differently of the situation and have a different view, but it matters how you perceive is on your own. The only opinion that matters is yours, so stand up for yourself and what you believe is right! Overall, I have concluded that there should be dress code guidelines for certain jobs, but they should ban them from schools. Kids should be worrying about their education and not their style. There is nothing wrong with dressing how you want to dress; so if a dress code is a problem, then simply try go somewhere else if you're able. Not everyone is going to agree with your style, but if it makes you happy, then don't worry about what people think.
