Before writing this paper, I did not know that there were such a large variety of styles associated with management. In my limited experienced, I thought it was as simple as good bosses and bad bosses. Both to be endured and appreciated for the paycheck they resulted in taking home. I never would have imagined that when I sat down to research and write about managements styles that it would have such a profound effect on how I view the economics of the world and my current career! To start, I did some blanket research on styles of management and found that they are either Autocratic or Permissive and are broken into smaller categories form there. “A distinction is often made between management style (around organization and process) and leadership style (more strategic and inspirational.) “[1] American styles are more individual based as where elsewhere in the world (Japan for instance) are culture/heritage driven.[2]
6 key management styles I found for the US were directive, authoritative, affiliative, participative, pacesetting and coaching.[3] Directive style reminds me of the military with the primary objective of getting instant compliance. This style involves ordering the team around, setting high standards and ensuring discipline is set for those who fail. Using this can provide long-term vision and direction. Authoritative

The team takes responsibility for choosing the options that everyone then votes on. This Democratic style builds commitment and consensus. Despite the styles name , pacesetting operates with high energy, engagement and motivation. The primary focus is to accomplish tasks, performing with a high standard of excellence. The style of coaching is all about the learning and process of it. These teams may not fully complete their tasks but do celebrate and honor every achievement along the way.
