What encourages her to move on is the visions she has with her husband. He said to her, “You must finish alone what we started together”. She realized having hope for her husband and two sons to return was only a distraction because she lacked closure. At the end she hears the voices of her family and they tell her “Your time has come.. Go be brave”. In this very moment she places a package in her hand on the bench symbolically leaving her old life behind. She walks away from it to welcome a fresh new start filled with love and hope.
In “Araby” the imagery of dark and light had a strong view point and a signficant meaning behind it. It is used to set a tone and attitude of the story. The dark described the reality the unamed boy was suffering in and the light described the boys imagination. In the beginning of the story he said, “North Richmond Street, being blind” this quote right away describes the kind of setting he is in. It immediately introduces the dark surroundings of the boy which includes his home and neighbours. Another quote he said, “When we met in the streets the houses had grown sombre”, here he is still referring to his dark surroundings as gloomy or shadowy. The dark repersented a lonely time in his life
