Towards the beginning of the film Malcolm refuses to believe in ghosts and when Cole had confessed about being able to see ghosts, Malcolm believed he had a case of paranoia. In which, paranoia could be an characteristic of Schizophrenia. While the film continues on, it was the scene of Cole in the hospital bed after being shut into a closet and passed out after hours of being in there, is when the diagnosis of Schizophrenia was applied to Cole by Dr. Crowe. Whilst Cole is laying in the bed and Dr. Crowe comes in to talk to him, but after Crowe’s attempt to get Cole to talk becomes a rambling session for Crowe himself, and once he had finished Cole had told Malcolm his secret of seeing ghosts - which Dr. Crowe had believed Cole was hallucinating
