People with depression may lose their appetite, lacks interest in daily activities, and isolates themselves from others. Thus, the victim may always feel tired and hopeless throughout their days. Depressed victims have trouble concentrating on work and are unable to think clearly. Just like the many symptoms of depression, there are many factors that increase a person’s chance of getting depression. Having a family background of depression, having trouble dealing with stress, and experiencing traumatic events contributes to the fact a person could be depressed. Likewise, environmental factors also play a big role on the risks of depression (“Depression” 1). Unfortunately, many depressed patients have unhappy thoughts and unexplained reactions to little things in life without knowing why (“Depression” 1). Consequently, it causes suicidal thoughts and attempts in patients. “They will feel so hopeless, and so unhappy that they will feel like they are helping themselves out by ending their life” (Gegg 2). People with suicidal thoughts do not talk about their future and they may seem happier than usual after they’ve planned their death (Gegg 1). Suicidal attempts can be stopped with good observation by the people around the victim. However though, in order for a depressed victim to receive any kind of treatment, the victim’s family must let him or her know they have depression and must urge him or her to start treatment. Treatment for depression varies widely among different individuals. Studies have shown it is more effective to treat depression if the victim starts their treatment early (“Depression” 1). Getting support from family and friends, getting some sunlight, and doing some yoga may help for mild depression (Gegg 1). For severe depression cases, it is recommended for the victim to seek help from a professional therapist. Correspondingly, finding ways to handle stress and reaching out to family and friends often prevent individuals from getting depression (“Can You Prevent Depression?” 1). Above all, thinking more positively than negatively both helps to treat and prevent
