Throughout the course of this novel Mahtab adapts herself to becoming an adult, especially to her siblings. An example of this is when Mahtab is asked by her sister to tell her a story. An example of this is when Mathab looses her father as he has to go to Australia and see what it is like and if it is suitable for his family. Mahtab accepts that she can't do anything to stop he dad which is why she “wrapped her arms around him and pressed her face to his chest”(pg 49). This shows that Mathab is saying goodbye to her dad and respecting that what he is doing is for the best for everyone. Another example of this is when Mathab could here heavy boots outside her family's room. She accepted that she couldn't do anything and “grabbed the edge of the sheet and pulled it tightly around her….she shivered but wasn't cold. The door closed” (pg 129) This reflects that even though Mahtab could hear something was wrong she couldn't do anything about it as it would only thrown more danger to her and her family. These two examples show that even though life isn't always fair to Mathab sometimes she can't do anything about it as it will only result into more complications.
In conclusion, the book Mahtabs story clearly shows the reader that even though Mahtab is a young girl, she can discover techniques, life skills and important information throughout journeys in life. She learns the responsibilities and acts of being an adult, she learns new strategies to help her get through tough times and she learns that life isn't always fair and sometimes
