A great leader needs to be adaptable. The biggest mistake you can make is to be unwilling to change course, or start over when something is not going your way. That willingness to forge past mistakes and turn learnings into progress is what leads to eventual success. Moreover, a great leader is someone who recognises that a team member’s responsibilities aren’t determined by his job description but by his determination. As a leader, we should just not only do what our goals are but also go beyond, or in other words go the distance. Always push yourself to do something greater. Not to mention this, a great leader must learn to accept both failure and success. Every step you take in life defines who you are as a person. Learn from your mistakes and don’t be afraid of failure because each experience teaches you the important lessons to succeed in life. A leader should learn to accept both failure and success, and view each obstacle as a stepping stone to the latter. Don’t be disappointed by what you couldn’t accomplish; move on to the next thing you’re passionate about and make the most out of it. Do what you love and challenge …show more content…

Calvin Coolidge had once said, “No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been given for what he gave.” I believe that this quote truly defines one point the National Honor Society is trying to get across to young students. That is to serve others before yourself and to give help to others where help is needed. The main idea of the book I choose the book “Act like a leader, think like a leader, by Herminia Ibarra, which is inspirational read for everyone who has a passion for leading. Ibarra, redefines the traditional leadership notion of “think first, and then act’’ by acting first and then thinking. She described The “Outsight Principle” which is the mine idea of this book. Through the implementation of the “outsight principle”, Ibarra believes that one can improve or develop into an effective leader. This principle attests that the only way to think like a leader is to first act it out and that is to come out of ones’ comfort zone by start doing changes and more experiences.…

I am now aware that my idea is not always the best idea, and that there can be more than one solution to a problem. As a leader I am very punctual about time constraints and working to accomplish all of my responsibilities by setting priorities. I am very good at deciphering what order to do tasks in depending on importance, time constraints, feasibility, etc. When I lead I expect that others will respect me, but I understand that this is not always the case. Social Work with Groups course is giving me more insight to the other courses that I have taken previously and some of those that I am currently rolled in such as Social Work with Families and Community Development. After reading the textbook and the discussions in class, the theories of group counseling, viewing groups through multicultural lens, leadership qualities and functions, co-facilitator and group development stood out for me and broaden my perception into Social Work as a profession. The first thing that caught my attention this time is that, theories of counseling are also applicable to group counseling. I learned about the theories in my social work practice class last year.
