He immediately regressed back to the unpleasant experiences in school caused by his English teacher’s unkind words, “You are lazy and stupid, Gareth. Why are you even wasting my time?” (Cook) After years of not knowing the reason why he had difficulty reading and writing until diagnosed with dyslexia. Gareth’s courage and determination to not be held back by any means possible has led him to write about his experiences living with dyslexia as a journalist to shed light on the subject of dyslexia. Had I missed my power to communicate effectively the victim of dyslexia? My story begins the late 90s with my favorite male cousin whom was attending college at the time and diagnosed with dyslexia disorder. This was the first time hearing of about dyslexia disorder, and that it affects way the brain processes language. Nonetheless, my cousin went on to earn a Bachelor of Science and MBA. I can remember my English teacher cruel words, because of my low-grade on her weekly spelling quizzes. Ms. Fernandez my high school Spanish teacher regularly took delight in picking on me to humiliate me in front of other students. I could not pronounce words or read quickly to her expertise I was always having to go to the office. I was not a disrupted or loud students. One time she called my mother to discuss my behavior has if I had a behavior problem. I quickly was transferred out of her hostile environment. I do not feel as Shane of the past experiences with my teachers but felted frustrated by their lack of interest properly
