A recurring concept in the subject of magic is the evil factor. The use of sorcery and magic leads to either the removing or blocking of evil spells, or the action of enchanting people to act evilly or use of magic to ruin living things. The difference between what magic is evilly influencing varies by culture. Another theme of magic is the connection magic has to some sort of god or higher being. This is only seen in some cultures. The people of different cultures also have different ways of dealing with witchcraft, but the witchcraft is usually dealt with in some manor. Macbeth is an English tragedy written by Shakespeare. The plot of this tragedy entirely stems from witches who can see the future. They tell a series of prophecies to Macbeth, leading Macbeth to be tempted to see these fortunes come true. They prophesize, “All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!” (Shakespeare, William and Clark). In the process of Macbeth taking action to fulfill these prophecies, he does many evil things, including the murdering of many people. The underlying evil of witches is portrayed, by showing how the temptation witches implant in the mind of Macbeth alter his actions to be evil. The witches in Macbeth have abilities that do not force Macbeth to be evil, but they entice him to do whatever it takes to achieve what he wants most in life.
