Magee-Womens Hospital (MWH) of UPMC first opened in 1911 caring for 14 women and infants (Magee-Womens Hospital, 2017), it has grown to a 383 bed acute-care womens teaching hospital located in Oakland serving the tri-state area (Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, 2016). MWH delivers more than half of all babies born in Allegheny County (Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, 2016), this comprises nearly 11,000 births annually. Additionally, the hospital houses the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Pennsylvania, which cares for more than 1,500 babies a year. However, MWH is not just for women and infants the hospital offers a full-service emergency department and services that include imaging, cardiology, orthopaedic, surgery, lupus, gastro-enterology, colorectal surgery, pulmonology, urology, and bariatric surgery.
