Macklemore Same Love Analysis

The song “Same Love” by Macklemore portrays a story of gay rights and homophobia within the hip-hop community and the world. Within the song, Macklemore is telling the audience how gays can’t change even if they tried because that is who they were born to love. Macklemore is telling people to be happy the way you are which connects th the theme of happiness. At the beginning of the song, Macklemore says “Cause I could draw, my uncle was, and I kept my room straight” which is a big stereotype. A stereotype is an over speculated belief about a group of people that is usually an over exaggeration of the truth. When Macklemore says “Yeah I’m good at little league it is making it clear to the audience that people think a “role” of a gay person is to be good at school and not play sports. Later on, the singer says “and “g-d loves all his children”, is somehow forgotten.” This is an example of ingroup/outgroup. Ingroup is the people who have similar ethnicities, religious beliefs, characteristics the "us" aspect. It says “g-d loves all his children” is the ingroup part of the sentence. G-d loving all his people because we are Americans and people are all similar makes the ingroup.
