While some drones are equipped with weapons and programmed to replace troops, some drones are just there to inform soldiers as to where the enemy is. These drones scope out enemy territory and send visuals back to soldiers on the battlefield. One of these drones is named the 3D drone acts as a security camera to scope out the enemy and show a 3D view of the battlefield. This small drone can also be attached to a soldier's gear and can be deployed at any time. The drones can see thermal vision so the soldiers can see heat signatures from the enemy and their vehicles. This drone has a camera on it and displays the footage on a computer device which the soldier has with him (Bailey). Another drone named the Zephyr Surveillance Drone is classified as a pseudo satellite which means it has satellite type capabilities like extreme surveillance, but is flexible and versatile like an unmanned aircraft. Unlike a satellite the Zephyr can be landed and re-launched easily off of the ground. The Zephyr can fly non stop for a month and a half while continuously taking footage of any designated area. From around 12 miles above the ground it can see over 250 miles away and can provide imagery from around 380 miles away (Barrie). During the day this drone uses solar power to fly while also charging its lithium batteries which help it fly during the night. This is why the Zephyr can stay in the air for so long, it doesn't continuously need fuel like other drones. This drone can fly up to 250 miles above the ground and can be controlled from any United States military base around the world. Even without being operated, the Zephyr can fly itself. The Zephyr is programmed so that it can launch from the United States, complete its surveillance mission within weeks, and then land in Afghanistan at a United States base by itself

Beginning in November 1955, and lasting through April 1975, the War in Vietnam was a long, drawn out battle that pitted a communist lead regime of North Vietnam and allies against South Vietnam and the United States, lasting a total of just short of twenty years. One of the most notable advances in artillery weapons technology in WWII was the proximity fuze. In both of the Great wars, the fuses available for achieving air bursts were quit unsatisfactory — requiring daily registrations and settings at the guns. Needed, was a fuze that would explode the shell when it arrived in the proximity of the target — without registrations and individual settings. The U.S. put some of its best electronic and engineering experts on this very complicated problem. By 1944 the U.S. had built an operational proximity fuse for use against ground targets and the artillerymen called it Pozit or VT (variable time).…

The First World War was the first conflict that had a truly global reach. It was also one of the most deadly, with 35 million casualties, of which 14 million were killed. It was a brutal war of attrition with thousands of soldiers killed and seriously wounded every day; indeed, the true casualty numbers are very difficult, if not impossible, to comprehend for those of us who were not actually there to witness the carnage. It was also a war of technology and of invention. The science of killing advanced so rapidly during the four years of the conflict that the weapons and tactics employed by the relevant armies, navies and air forces of 1918 were unrecognisable from those in use when the war broke out in the late summer months of 1914.…

Bomb disposal is the process in which explosive devices are rendered safe and are properly disposed of. Bomb disposal teams, more commonly referred to as Bomb Squads have the job to identify, defuse and dispose of an explosive device. Bomb squads can be found in each branch of military as well as in our local and state police. Bomb disposal teams in the navy and airforce tend to work on the disposal of explosive chemicals more than they do explosive devices. During the Middle Ages, many weapons were created to help in the winning of battles and unlike today's firearms, they had small weapons such as bows and swords. But as the castle walls became higher and stronger, a new weapon had to be invented to destroy them. This was 399 BC when a Greek historian named, Diodorus Siculus, was the first to document the use of a mechanical arrow firing catapult. The first catapults that were ever built were made in the early attempts to increase the range and power of a crossbow. Now there were various types of catapults that had been used by the Greeks, Romans, and Chinese soon after.…

Drone Warfare: The United States and their Aggressive Drone Policy in Afghanistan The United States has shifted its military strategies for taking out foreign enemies by reducing the number of boots they put on the ground and increasing the use of unmanned aerial vehicles referred to as drones. The use of drones is effective at sparing the number of U.S. soldiers and pilots being sent to deal with terrorist organizations (Grayson 2016). However it is ineffective in reducing the number of civilians that are killed or wounded through the use of these counterinsurgency strategies (Khalili 2012). This essay argues that the current U.S. drone policy in the country of Afghanistan is too aggressive and is doing more harm than good.…
