According to the Digestive Endoscopy, Ménétrier's disease was coined and described in 1888 by a french physician named Pierre Eugène Ménétrier. In a case report about the disease, Japanese healthcare professionals described the disease as an acquired disorder with premalignant tendency(Endo, Arimura, Adachi, Mita,Yamashita, Yamamoto, Shinomura, Ishii, 2012). Furthermore, the case report affirms that MD has the characteristics pertaining to “enlarged gastric folds within the foveolar hyperplasia”.In simpler words, the walls of the stomach grow abnormally. This abnormal growth causes significant folds in the stomach.Other characteristics of MD include the decrease acid secretion in the stomach which is known as Hypochlorhydria.
