Luma Al Mufleh Analysis

Luma Al-Mufleh coaches three different teams in the Fugees program, the Under Thirteens, Under Fifteens, and Under Seventeens. She tries to balance her teams out evenly and to have all her players support one another. She accepts a third of her players whom have stable lives and families, another third who were generally trustworthy with little problems at school and home, and a final third of boys who needed the Fugees to look out for them in their personal lives and issues they face on and off the field. She runs each practice the same way for each team, once dismissed from tutoring, her players would start running. Luma has always been a true believer in running ever since her coach made her volleyball team run in college. “Over time, the practices began to have an effect. The team improved. They were motivated, and even the slackers began working hard” (#14). After the boys ran, Luma coached them through different exercises, and was very observant those who …show more content…
While rules two through six, “I will not smoke, I will not do drugs, I will not drink alcohol, I will not get anyone pregnant, I will not use bad language” all are great rules, they could be considered underneath rule one, “I will have good behavior on and off the field” (#76). Some people may even think that having your hair shorter than Luma’s is ridiculous because the length of your hair shouldn’t revolve around whether or not you play during games. The hair disagreement between players and coach didn’t turn out too well for the players. Luma didn’t care if you were one of the best players, like in Prince’s case, you would be cut from the team if you didn’t cut your hair. This outcome was the same for all of the rules, which may seem harsh to others. “‘If you don’t follow the rules, you’re off the team,” she said. “There are plenty of kids who want to play. If you do follow the rules, you’re going to have a lot of fun”’

The punishment for the Atlee junior softball team to not participate in the Junior League World Series championship game was a little excessive. For example, when the author was explaining how some people on social media reacted, she said, “it’s equally unfair to disqualify the whole Atlee team over the actions of six members” (Payne 2). The other members on the team aren’t accountable for what their teammates did, so they shouldn’t be punished for it. Playing without those six girls for the whole game or even half the game would’ve been more reasonable than prohibiting the entire team from participating. Additionally, when the author shared how else the Atlee team was punished, she said, “Kirkland was chosen to replace Atlee in Saturday’s…

This passion of mine as well as her continual support has carried me through the difficulties of my grandfather’s death, my parents’ divorce, and other strenuous circumstances including the end of her time as my coach. Imagine a 6 year old girl wanting to play softball and her first time on the field her coach is yelling at her. The topic of how a coach treats their player has been a debate thought history. Even though some say coaches should be strict, there should be strict rules for how a coach treats the players because it can mess with their head and could lead to unfair treatment. First of all, when coaches say push their players it affects the players mental state when it comes to the sport. According to the site Debate.org it states that coaches affect whether or not these players want to keep playing and when you ride them to hard it makes them not want to keep playing and when you ride them to hard it makes them not want to play.…

Throughout my four years of high school, the seaside community of Narragansett, Rhode Island, has encouraged and nurtured the growth of its youthful inhabitants as students and individuals. The supportive environment and abundant opportunities available for students to pursue their passions and help others consequently benefits the community as a whole. As an athlete, and more specifically, a runner, I have aspired to motivate and encourage young athletes to enjoy the fun and friendships that emerge from being a part of a sports team. During the summer, I volunteered at the Summer Youth Track Series at Narragansett High School. Eager smiles painted the faces of the joyous young runners lining up in heats, ready to run as fast as they can in the 100 meter sprint, throw as far as they can in the turbo javelin, and jump as far as they can in the long jump.…

Well, many kids have a variety of trophies in their room, but most of the trophies were given when the children didn’t do anything to earn it. All kids shouldn't get a trophy because it teaches life skills, children can work hard to show the coach they want one, and kids could be able to build their self-esteem on their own.
