Facing your fears or turning your weaknesses into a strength is something not very many people do. In Beowulf: A New Telling by Robert Nye that is something the hero, Beowulf, does. On page 29, it says “He admits to his weaknesses and in admitting they become his strengths.” This shows that he doesn’t separate good and evil, but he knows that there is good and evil in everyone. With this power, he is able to defeat many monsters of darkness. I would recommend this book to someone who thinks they are a bad person, when really they are a good person with a negative point of view. Beowulf, the hero of this story, travels to the land of the Danes because he heard about the monster, Grendel, is attacking the great Hall Heorot. Poets say that the Hall Heorot is made of ivory and gold, it’s roof bright like a second sun. The king of the Danes, Hrothgar, was the maker of Hall Heorot. He had a dream one night about a great hall. The next day, he told his men to build it. A celebration occurred and brought Grendel from his pool in the Fen. The Fen was a terrible place, filled with creatures of darkness and evil. Pools were plotted everywhere that contained these creatures. “Some of the pools were so thick and reggy that no one knew what lurked in the bottom of them.” [page 7]. Grendel came out of a pool and he went to the hall. Hrothgar had dreamt about this and that his guards were killed by Grendel, turning out to be true. Soon, Grendel became a monster everyone feared. The great Hall Heorot was loved in the daytime, and feared in the …show more content…
People never stop and think about what they are doing and who they are. Loyalty is also a possible theme. In the book, Beowulf keeps fighting and defeating the evil within himself and within others. He defeats monsters like Grendel and his mother, but another thing is that he is defeating small things in himself, like his
