Love, Jealousy And Betrayal In William Shakespeare's Othello

“Othello” by William Shakespeare mainly describes about love, jealousy and betrayal. When we consider about some of the characters the play’s protagonist and the hero was Othello. Othello was well respected by all those around him and he was a physically powerful figure. Although he was very fluent, he believes in his words and manners are both rough. Desdemona was the Othello’s wife and she was almost overly cultured. She was stronger than Othello believes her to be and was determined and self-possessed. She was capable of taking care of her marriage. Iago was young and faithless man. He was immoral but very perceptive, violent and able to aim people into falling into his deceits. The customer of Bianca was Cassio. Brabantio was the father of Desdemona. He was a self important Venetian senator. Montano was the governor of Cyprus. Although we can see him act two, he was the person who made the judgment on Iago at the end of the play. Other than the above characters we would be able to see some more. Othello, the Shakespeare’s famous play shows how the love turned by unfounded jealousy. The first act begins in Venice with Iago arguing with Rodrigo. Iago knew that Brabantio’s daughter, Desdemona had run off to marry Othello and also Iago knew that Rodrigo lusts after Desdemona. So Iago had lead Rodrigo into alerting Venice. After knowing that Brabantio’s daughter had eloped, he got panic and called for people to search for Desdemona. Then Iage had joined with Othello, and Iago had told Othello about Rodrigo’s betrayal of the news of his marriage to Brabantio. Then Cassio enters the play. Brabantio was very angry and telling to the men that Othello must have fascinated Desdemona. Othello was called away to Cyprus to conserve it from an inoculation of Turks. Iago had assured and upset Rodrigo that the bond between Othello and Desdemona won’t last long. But Imago had filled Othello’s mind with more wrong ideas and made a huge conflict between Desdemona and Othello. Othello had an idea of killing Desdemona himself. However at the end of this act Iago was coming dangerously close to being revealed. Desdemona knew that she would die soon. So she started to sing a song. In act five, Imago makes Rodrigo to kill Cassio. Gratiano and Lodovico enter the scene. Othello had entered Desdemona’s room and killed her. Emilia brought the news of Rodrigo’s death and Cassio’s wounding. Desdemona died in Othello’s hand after telling her last words. Cassio started to speak about the uses of handkerchief. Then Othello found what the truth was. Emilia was stabbed by Iago for uncovering his plans. Othello got to know the truth about what Iago did and Othello stabbed Iago. Othello killed himself and the news was carried by Lodovico and Gratiano to Venice. So according to my point of view I think this was an exciting play as this was my first play I have watched and how they have memorized the lines were amazing. I think they should have improved the sound system so we could have heard the lines more clearly. Other than that the drama was
