– A Reaction Paper
On the movie Amour (Love) –

Amour is the French word for “love”. Love can be defined in many ways. Actually, it depends on the person on how he or she defines love. For the movie “Amour”, the filmmakers wanted to make the audience believe an illusion that the definition of love is that no matter what happens, nothing can separate lovers, even with the complication that they face, from each other except death. The film depicts an unconditional love of elderly couples with each other until death parted them. The movie starts with what seemed to be the ending. The audience was shown the scene with firemen breaking down a barricaded door of a room of an apartment

He even promised his wife to not hospitalize her or put her into a home. He finally lost his patience when she refused his help. But then again even though he lost his patience, his love still prevailed. During the last moments of their lives, the last parts of the movie, Georges still thought about the welfare his wife, Anne. He ended the life of his wife with the intention of ending the suffering of his wife not because of his frustration but because of love. It was just startling that a peaceful scene, where Georges calms or relieves his wife in pain by telling a story, suddenly turns dark. It immediately turned dark when Anne was suffocated by her husband using a pillow just to end her pain.
The director and the writer of the film, Michael Haneke, did an outstanding job in making the Film. Even though the transitions of the scenes are not that great, the sense of the movie is still there, all in all. The portrayal of Jean-Louis Trintignant as Georges and Emmanuelle Riva as Anne was excellent. They did an exceptional job portraying their characters despite their age. As all say, “age doesn’t

It is great because he bravely decided to end the life of his beloved wife just to put a stop on her suffering. Yes, it is considered as murder, a crime punishable by years of imprisonment, or in worse cases, death. But even though it is considered a murder, his intentions were not to harm his wife but to save her which makes it for the better. The film also depicts Georges’ genuine love and a very long patience for Anne. It was so amazing for Georges to endure all his wife’s sufferings and to take care of her alone. He even fulfilled his promise on not to hospitalize his wife even though he is old and weak to take care of another
